Over the weekend, I was pleased to see the government announce an immediate £30m boost to help get more rough sleepers into temporary accommodation. This will pay for an additional 1,750 bed spaces for rough sleepers and 531 more dedicated homelessness workers across the country. The funding package includes over £300,000 specifically for Wiltshire.
The new funding announced also coincides with today’s publication of Shelter’s ‘Everybody In’ report which makes it clear that more needs to be done to tackle homelessness. We are not complacent. The government is committed to halving rough sleeping by 2022 and eliminating it altogether by 2027.
