This afternoon, I met with representatives from Lloyds Bank at the branch in Wilton, accompanied by local Wiltshire councillor, Pauline Church. Lloyds has announced that it will be closing the Wilton branch next month, so Pauline and I made representations to them on behalf of local residents, many of whom depend on the over-the-counter services provided.
We particularly stressed that it was important for the bank to consider future opportunities from development and housing growth in the area. I also made the case for them to consider deploying their mobile branch in Wilton on a regular basis if they press ahead with closing the permanent branch. This is ultimately a commercial decision for Lloyds to make but we made clear to them how important the branch is, particularly for older residents of the town.
